With a new administration and Congress taking office in January, many people are wondering what that means for getting solar for your home in 2025.
The solar tax credit for home owners who install solar will definitely be in place for 2025, but that credit could be modified, reduced or even eliminated for 2026.
On tariffs, many solar panels are made overseas in countries like China and these solar panels will most likely face higher tariffs in early 2025. With solar panels making up between 20 and 30% of the total cost of a home solar installation, these tariffs could add 10 to 15% of the total cost of a new solar PV system.
While the tax credit and tariff rates could stay where they are, it appears more likely than not that there will be changes coming up.
For that reason, if you have been considering getting solar for your home but have been waiting, the time to act is sooner rather than later. Find two or three local solar companies, get design proposals and price quotes, select a company and then get your project installed as early as possible in 2025.
